Charlie Waehler is a licensed psychologist in Ohio. He is board certified as a Counseling Psychologist which is a sub-speciality in professional psychology that focuses on facilitating personal and interpersonal functioning across the life span. The specialty pays particular attention to emotional, social, vocational, educational, health-related, developmental, and organizational concerns and adjustment.
Dr. Waehler joined the graduate faculty at The University of Akron in 1989 after receiving his Ph.D. from Northwestern University and his M.Ed. from Plymouth State College (NH). As a full time faculty member he has spent 33 years performing a variety of roles including teacher, supervisor, mentor, advisor, scholar, and scientific researcher. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, as well as two books including “What Do I Say? The Therapist’s Guide to Answering Client Questions” (Edelstein & Waehler) and “Bachelors: The Psychology of Men Who Haven’t Married” (Waehler).
Throughout his tenure at The University of Akron, Dr. Waehler has provided psychological services to individuals and families, primarily through the Cornerstone Psychological Services in Medina, Ohio. He has also presented programs, workshops, and conferences nationally. He also has an appointment as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine, at the Northeast Ohio Medical University.
Engaging in his fulfilling career, Dr. Waehler had little time or interest in considering his own retirement, but as more of his clients and peers were transitioning into this life phase, Dr. Waehler began a concentrated review of the retirement process with all its challenges and opportunities.
